Schools & Residentials

Trips and educational visits

Harbour Challenge are yet again able to offer an action packed, fully catered multi activity residential experience on Brownsea Island, an SSSI site based in the very heart of Poole Harbour.

You are welcome to bring your school group here for just about any purpose. Our prices are especially competitive during the week and we are pleased to offer a fully flexible package designed around your needs. Please email or speak to Chris or Vicky  for more details.

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?

Harbour Challenge offers a real adventure service camping on an island, with highly qualified, professional, friendly staff, with years of experience.

We  run our sessions with a learner centred approach. By this we mean that your group will not be led through activities with a ‘follow me and do as I say’ approach; instead the young people are inspired to be the explorers and adventurers themselves.

They will be encouraged to make independent decisions about safety, party management, navigation and risk assessment without a prescriptive dictum being given by the instructor.

Our staff will always be on hand to oversee these decisions do not jeopardize the safety of the young people but equally will allow the group to make mistakes, review and apply learning to achieve successful journeys and adventures.

We feel that this modern style of coaching is key to our success and why our clients find our service stands out way above others within our industry.

100% of schools that have booked a residential course with Harbour Challenge have re-booked with us year after year.

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?

Our residential courses can be totally bespoke. If you have any specific learning outcomes you hope to achieve on your visit simply tell us and our team will be able to create and deliver a package to best meet your learning needs. However from our experience of working with schools and groups we have put together some tailored packages that include all the activities that your group could need.

Our team of staff is very creative and they are always coming up with new, innovative and unique ways of teaching a range of academic subjects using the outdoors as the classroom

We have also taught trigonometry for a maths class using a ‘hide and seek’ type game, which required the group to use compasses and bearings, measure distances and use triangulation (a relocation technique used by mountaineers and also sailors) to reach their goal.

Our staff team are highly qualified, both in the outdoor activities we provide and academically, Because of this level of expertise and experience, we can offer an educational package that significantly surpasses other adventure activity providers. At Harbour Challenge we pride ourselves on managing that the quality of our service is always the provision of excellence and strive to be the best within our industry.
